Magic Media Tools for Artists...

Sharing art online with simple tools - real & digital
1

Of course I have an Instagram page too… where I share the pictures & movies I make… with the help of technology. I use lots of different simple techniques… mostly from the iPad movies.

But for some of them, the ones I film of my drawing, it’s done with some other simple tools that I hang off a drawing lamp and film me drawing on the real desk.

Here are some of those tools. Mostly I video using an iPad. It has some iPad & iPhone holding tools and extension cameras. I mostly use the iPad camera holder, which is about 5 feet long and clamps to the drawing table. Then I move it into place and make the magic of drawing.

Here’s what the iPad camera extension setup basically looks like… and it’s quite awkward to use. Mostly the problem is the iPad is directly in the way of drawing on the screen. So I have to sort of lean around the bulky iPad.

It’d be a LOT easier with an iPhone. But I don’t have any sort of iPhone, since the iPad is way more my speed.

I can also attach the small camera to the drawing desk a few feet away, with an 8 foot extension cord that connects to the Logitech mini camera. Or else I could use the iPad camera.

Some of my movies are filmed using that technique.

And the last step is to edit the videos… to make the video fit all the limitations and add interest. I find the iPad simple movie is the easiest way by far to edit videos.

With a little practice, it’s simple to cut, paste, shorten, change colors, change filters, add music just have fun making art. Then it’s fun to watch the reaction…
